ABSTRACT

Abstract In Brazil, the study of the condition of legitimacy (affiliation) is a topic that has been studied by the specialized literature, both in the field of History and in that of Historical Demography, especially from the 1980s onwards. The objective of this article is to contribute to the advancement of the debate on illegitimacy, mapping the incidence and the spatial distribution of the phenomenon in the state of São Paulo, at the end of the 19th century, from a different perspective of previous studies, especially in relation to the considered period and the used sources. Thus, data on affiliation in the São Paulo population were analysed from the General Censuses of the Brazilian Population, carried out in 1890 and 1900, in addition to other statistical sources produced for the state of São Paulo. The results point to a different picture in relation to the various zones that make up the state of São Paulo and, although the sources are different, the results corroborate the fundamental role of international immigration, because in the areas where it was more intense, there was a decrease in the percentages of illegitimacy.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To analyze the spatial distribution of the prevalence of cognitive dysfunction and its risk factors in Chinese population aged 45 years and above to provide evidence for formulating regional prevention and control strategies.@*METHODS@#The study subjects with complete cognitive function data were selected from the follow-up data of the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) Phase IV. ArcGis 10.4 software was used for spatial analysis of the prevalence of cognitive dysfunction in the population aged 45 years and above for each province based on the geographic information system (GIS) technology.@*RESULTS@#In 2018, the overall prevalence of cognitive dysfunction was 33.59% (5951/17716) in individuals aged 45 and above in China. Global spatial autocorrelation analysis indicated a spatial clustering and a positive autocorrelation (P < 0.001) of the prevalence of cognitive dysfunction in the study subjects, with a Moran's I value of 0.333085. The results of local spatial autocorrelation analysis showed that the southwestern region of China was the main aggregation area of patients with cognitive dysfunction. Geographically weighted regression analysis suggested that a male gender, an advanced age, and illiteracy were the major risk factors for cognitive dysfunction (P < 0.05). These 3 risk factors showed a spatial distribution heterogeneity with greater impact in the northern, western, and northwestern regions of China, respectively.@*CONCLUSION@#The prevalence of cognitive dysfunction is relatively high in individuals aged 45 years and above in China. A male gender, an advanced age, and illiteracy are the major risk factors for cognitive dysfunction and show different spatial distribution patterns, with the northern, western and northwestern regions of China as the key areas for prevention and control, where the prevention and control measures should be designed based on local conditions.

ABSTRACT

Objective Tto analyze the spatial distribution and characteristics of the national AIDS/HIV epidemics from 2009 to 2020 to discover its distribution, aggregation, and hot spots, and provide corresponding suggestions for AIDS prevention and control. Methods Spatial autocorrelation analysis, hot spot analysis, and Kriging interpolation prediction were used to describe, analyze, and predicting the spatial distribution of AIDS epidemics across the country. Results The national AIDS incidence and mortality rate increased yearly, but the growth rate shows a downward tendency with uneven spatial distribution, focusing on the southwest and northwest regions; the average annual incidence rate of AIDS ( Moran's I> 0, P 0, P “high-high” clusters of AIDS incidence; Sichuan, Yunnan, Guangxi,Hunan,Xinjiang and Guizhou were the areas with “high-high” clusters of average annual mortality. The “hot spot” areas were mainly concentrated in the southwestern part of China, and the “cold spot” areas were mainly concentrated in the eastern coastal and northern parts of China; Kriging interpolation predicted that Xinjiang would be the new hot spot area for future epidemics. Conclusion The spatial distribution of AIDS in China is uneven, showing spatial aggregation, hot spots and cold spots coexist, and the high-risk areas will continue to expand in the future. So the prevention and control work should be carried out in a targeted and localized manner.

ABSTRACT

Background Exposure to heavy metals has potential adverse impacts on human health, and the concentration of heavy metals in abandoned mining areas may still be higher than that in general areas, so the health risk assessment in such areas cannot be ignored. Objective To explore the health risk of heavy metal exposure and the spatial distribution characteristics of associated main metals in a typical abandoned mining area. Methods Environmental samples of irrigated soil, rice, and drinking water were collected from 13 natural villages under the jurisdiction of a township in Liuzhou, Guangxi from November to December 2019, where a typical abandoned mining was located. Finally, 13 irrigation soil samples, 11 rice samples, and 13 drinking water samples were collected. The concentrations of six metals and metalloid elements in each environmental sample were detected by inductively coupled-plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), including cadmium (Cd), arsenic (As), lead (Pb), chromium (Cr), copper (Cu), and zinc (Zn). At the same time, 251 local residents were recruited for health risk assessment. Model parameters such as body weight, rice intake, and drinking water intake of local residents were obtained through field survey, and the median metal concentration of each environmental sample was taken as the risk assessment parameter of the region. The health risk of heavy metal exposure of local residents was assessed by using oral health risk assessment model of U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The spatial distribution characteristics of health risks associated with heavy metals were evaluated by empirical Bayes interpolation method using Geographic Information System (GIS) technology. Results The positive rates of Cd, As, Pb, Cr, Cu, and Zn in the irrigated soil samples were 100.00%. The positive rate of Pb was 63.64% in the rice samples, while the rates of other metals were 100.00%. The positive rates of Cd, As, Pb, Cr, Cu, and Zn in the drinking water samples were 53.85%, 76.92%, 92.31%, 15.38%, 84.62%, and 100.00%, respectively. The results of non-carcinogenic risk assessment of oral exposure to heavy metals suggested that the contribution of heavy metals causing non-carcinogenic risk from high to low was As (70.52%) > Cd (18.03%) > Zn (6.63%) > Cu (4.12%) > Pb (0.64%) > Cr (0.06%), and the corresponding estimated non-carcinogenic risk values were 3.54 × 100, 9.05 × 10−1, 3.33 × 10−1, 2.07 × 10−1, 3.23 × 10−2, and 5.42 × 10−4, respectively. The results of carcinogenic risk assessment of oral exposure to heavy metals suggested that the contribution of studied metals from high to low was Cd (87.00%) > As (10.24%) > Cr (2.60%) > Pb (0.16%), and the estimated carcinogenic risks were 4.35× 10−3, 5.12 × 10−4, 1.30 × 10−4, and 3.08 × 10−7, respectively. Rice was the leading media associated with non-carcinogenic risk and carcinogenic risk (99.4% and 99.8% respectively). The spatial distribution characteristics of GIS showed no obvious regularity in the distribution of As in irrigated soil, rice, and drinking water. In rice and irrigated soil, the content of Cd in the villages adjacent to the mining area was obviously higher than that in the other villages, while in drinking water, the content in the villages far away from the mining area was higher. Conclusion As and Cd are the main heavy metals that increase the health risk of local residents in a typical abandoned mining area, and the distribution characteristics of the two heavy metals in different environmental media are not completely consistent.

ABSTRACT

Introduction?Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and bronchial asthma are the most common chronic respiratory illnesses. COPD is one of the three most common causes of death worldwide. The main burden of mortality from COPD is seen in Latin America, sub-Saharan Africa, India, China, and South-East Asia. Absence of true prevalence values and mortality burden hinder planning and operationalization of public health interventions for prevention, control, and treatment of the disease. Further, the aggregated value of prevalence estimates calculated for a whole city or a larger geographical area does not provide the location of patients and presence of locally prevalent risk factors. The objective of this study was to understand the spatial distribution of COPD in a large, highly polluted city of a developing country. Materials and Methods?A cross-sectional community-based study was conducted in the National Capital Territory of Delhi (NCTD). All surveyed households were geocoded. GOLD screening criteria and pulmonary function tests using portable digital spirometer were used for diagnosis of COPD. Results? Results are presented as a series of maps depicting spatial epidemiology. Overall prevalence rate was 9.8/1,000 population. Highest prevalence was seen in industrial area. Most of the spatial hotspots were seen in industrial and slum areas. Similarly, Kernel density was also highest in industrial area. Conclusion? In the city of NCTD, we found the COPD being distributed in all types of habitations but spatial distribution helped us understand clustering of cases and compare prevalence rates in subunits of residential clusters within a metropolitan city.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT Objective: To assess the association between the presence of public outlets selling fruits and vegetables and the regular intake of these foods by adolescents from public schools in the city of Curitiba, Paraná, Brazil. Methods: Data collection was carried out by a questionnaire answered by the adolescents. Regular intake was defined as eating fruits and vegetables five or more times a week. Environmental data were obtained by assessing the availability and prices of fruits and vegetables traded in public outlets within a 1.6-km radius from 30 randomly selected public schools. Results: A total of 1,232 students from 30 public schools participated in the study. 43.4% of the adolescents reported a regular intake of fruits; 67.0% of them reported a regular intake of vegetables. In the schools, fruit intake ranged from 26.8 to 68.0%, and the vegetables intake ranged from 54.8 to 82.2%. A total of 22 schools had fruit and vegetables being traded in their surroundings. Regular intake of vegetables was positively correlated with their variety (r=0.82; p=0.007). The Moran's local index indicated low fruit intake in a high-supply region; in other three regions with low supply, there was a high intake of fruits; and there was a high consumption of vegetables in a high-supply region. Conclusions: There are differences in the supply of fruits and vegetables of public outlets in the school's surroundings as well as in the distribution of regular intake among regions. The density of public outlets and the variety were both associated with greater intake of fruits and vegetables among adolescents of public school.

ABSTRACT

Salvia miltiorrhiza Bge(SMB)has long been used in traditional Chinese medicine to treat cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases.Growing clinical usage has led to a huge demand for artificial planting of SMB.Thus, continuous cropping of SMB is an important challenge that needs to be addressed.Contin-uous cropping can alter the metabolic profile of plants, resulting in poor growth and low yield. In this study,we tried to image the spatial location and variation of endogenous metabolites in continuously cropped SMB using matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry imaging(MALDI-MSI).Spatially resolved expressions of tanshinones, salvianolic acids, polyamines, phenolic acids, amino acids, and oligosaccharides in normal and continuously cropped SMB roots were compared. The ex-pressions of dihydrotanshinone Ⅰ,tanshinone Ⅱ A,dehydromiltirone, miltirone, dehydrotanshinone ⅡA,spermine, salvianolic acid B/E,tetrasaccharide,and pentasaccharide in continuously cropped SMB roots were much lower than those in normal roots. There was little difference in the expressions of caffeic acid and salvianolic acid A in normal and continuously cropped SMB roots.Ferulic acid was more widely distributed in xylem of normal SMB but strongly expressed in xylem, phloem, and cambium of continuously cropped SMB.The spatially resolved metabolite information enhances our understanding of the metabolic signature of continuously cropped SMB and also provides insights into the metabolic ef-fects of continuous cropping in other plants.

ABSTRACT

【Objective】 To apply the spatial distribution analysis based on ArcGIS software, which has been applied widely in other fields, so as to analyze the intended locations for whole blood donation. 【Methods】 After a random stratified sampling was conducted among blood donors in the 17 donation sites during August 1st, 2021- July 30th, 2022, their intended blood donation locations were collected by an e-questionnaire. Addresses of donors′ intended donation locations were derived for GCJ-02 coordinates form and transformed by pandas module of Python to WGS84 coordinates, which further loaded to ArcGIS Arcmap module using Grouping Analysis for 17 median centers. The addresses of 17 blood donation sites in Guangzhou Blood Center were transformed to WGS84 coordinates and loaded to ArcGIS Arcmap module using the same methods for 3 ring buffer analysis. The criterion for judging whether the two were " matched" was whether the intended blood donation sites were covered by or adjacent to the 3 ring buffer zone of the existing blood donation sites. 【Results】 Of the 17 potential sites obtained from the spatial distribution analysis of 40 523 valid addresses of donors, 8 sites were covered or adjacent to the buffer of the existing donation sites, while the other 9 sites were far away from the existing donation sites. 【Conclusion】 By analyzing the spatial distribution of donors′ intended donation addresses, we can find out the service needs of donors for donating blood conveniently, which can provide basis for further blood donation service optimization.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the spatial distribution of microstructural parameters and mechanical properties for trabecular bone in the femoral head with osteonecrosis. Methods Microstructural parameters and mechanical properties of trabecular bone in different regions were analyzed by combined use of imaging measurements and numerical simulation method, and the spatial distribution of biomechanical properties for trabecular bone along coronal, sagittal and vertical directions was investigated. Results Microstructural characteristics and mechanical properties of trabecular bone were Y-shaped distributed along coronal and sagittal directions, and mechanical properties of trabecular bone in Y-shaped region were higher than those in the other regions. Such distribution characteristics was consistent with the location of principle compressive group in the femoral head. Conclusions Necrotic lesions in Y-shaped region had a greater influence on stress distribution of the femoral head and might cause the deterioration of osteonecrosis. The spacial correlation between necrotic lesions and Y-shaped region should be fully considered during clinical diagnosis.

Global spatial autocorrelation analysis showed that the distribution of SFTS cases in Yantai City from 2015 to 2020 showed a positive spatial correlation, with the highest spatial correlation in 2015 (Moran's I = 0.25, Z = 5.66, P < 0.001), and the lowest in 2018 (Moran's I = 0.16, Z = 3.69, P < 0.001). Local spatial autocorrelation and hotspot analysis showed that the epidemic areas of SFTS were mainly in some mountainous and hilly townships (streets) of Laizhou City, Penglai District, Qixia City, Zhaoyuan City, and Haiyang City. Conclusions:The distribution of SFTS epidemic in Yantai City has obvious regional clustering. Intervention measures such as publicity, education and monitoring should be strengthened in high-incidence areas to reduce the incidence of the disease.

ABSTRACT

ObjectiveTo clarify the spatial distribution characteristics of medicinal plant resources in Gansu province, analyze the causes, changing trends, and driving factors of the spatial differentiation, and thus lay a scientific basis for the rational development and sustainable development of medicinal plant resources in this province. MethodBased on the data of The Fourth National Survey of Chinese Medicine Resources, the richness and spatial distribution difference of medicinal plant resources in 87 counties (districts) of Gansu province were analyzed via the global spatial autocorrelation analysis, trend surface analysis, local spatial autocorrelation analysis, and hotspot analysis. Moreover, the correlation of vegetation type, soil texture, annual average temperature, annual average precipitation, and altitude with the spatial distribution pattern of the medicinal plant resources was discussed. ResultCounties (districts) with high or low richness of medicinal plant resources in Gansu province were respectively clustered together. To be specific, counties (districts) with high richness of the medicinal resources were mainly in southeastern Gansu, while those with low richness in northwestern Gansu. The leading driving factors affecting the cold and hot spots included vegetation type, soil texture, and average annual rainfall. ConclusionThe species richness of medicinal plant resources in Gansu province rises from west to east and from north to south. The natural driving factors are the key to the diversity and spatial distribution pattern of medicinal plant resources, which show significant influence on them.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE To pr ovide theoretic support for Guiyang to scientifically guide the development of drug retail industry and implement national health policies . METHODS The data were collected through statistical yearbook ,data cloud , coordinate acquisition device of Application Programming Interface of Baidu map and so on. The spatial distribution characteristics and accessibility of medical insurance designated retail pharmacies (shorted for “designated pharmacies ”)in Guiyang were analyzed by spatial analysis based on Geographic Information System. The related factors for the distribution of designated pharmacies in Guiyang were analyzed by statistical method. RESULTS The number of designated pharmacies ,designated pharmacies per thousand people and designated pharmacies per 10 km2 in Guiyang increased from 2 018,0.41 and 2.51 in 2020 to 2 500,0.42 and 3.11 in 2021,with growth rates of 23.89%,2.44% and 23.90% respectively. The service area of the designated pharmacies that residents of Guiyang reached within 15 minutes on foot was 10.27% of the total service area of designated pharmacies in Guiyang. The results of correlation analysis showed that the correlation coefficients between the regional gross regional production ,total retail sales of consumer goods ,population, urban per capita disposable income and the number of designated pharmacies in Guiyang were 0.999,0.999,0.977 and 0.992,respectively (all P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS The distribution of designated pharmacies is insufficient in Guiyang ,the development of designated pharmacies in various administrative regions is uneven ,and the layout of pharmacies is significantly affected by economic and demographic factors. It is suggested that the local government should explore the strategy of scientifically and reasonably expanding the coverage of designated pharmacies in urban and rural areas, promote the rational layout of pharmacies with appropriate economic and demographic policies ,and pay attention to improving the service capacity of designated pharmacies ,so as to improve the quality of life of the people and guide the healthy and high-quality development of drug retail industry.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT Schistosomiasis is considered one of the Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs), which affects around 240 million people worldwide. In Brazil, Schistosomiasis mansoni has been registered in 19 states, predominantly in rural areas. This study aimed to analyze the spatial distribution of Schistosomiasis mansoni cases in the Maranhao State from 2007 to 2016, as well as the temporal trend over this period. The data were obtained from secondary sources: Schistosomiasis Control Program of Maranhao (PCE-MA) and Information System for Notifiable Diseases (SINAN). The State Health Regions (HRs) were considered analysis units. Maranhao had a positivity rate of 3.8 for the period. The Regions that presented the highest percentages of positivity in the state were Pinheiro (7.92), Ze Doca (3.30), and Viana (3.10). Municipalities such as Bacuri, Serrano do Maranhao, and Bequimao, located in the Pinheiro HR, showed positivity rates of 16.56, 13.31, and 11.01 respectively. The spatial analysis of schistosomiasis cases showed that Maranhao has two main centers for the spread of the disease, both located in the northern portion of the state, namely the Baixada Maranhense and the east coast. This study concluded that the positivity of Schistosomiasis mansoni in Maranhao was stable over the analyzed period. The state still maintains the Baixada Maranhense micro-region as an important area for the spread of the disease reaching socially vulnerable population groups.
